Any way you can modify that tube or improve it so the air flows alot better?

Y not just take it off? replace the whole in-the-way cleaner assembly with an open element? That was the first thing I did with mine - what a difference! You can probably find and Edelbrock or K&N at your local parts store for under $50 (14x3"), including filter.
I guess you'd have to give up your investment in the old K&N filter, tho.

His car is multi point injection and his air ducting is like that of a TPI set up.So a 14x3 element will not work, only on a carb set up.The only mod I can suggest is to get a cone filter from K&N and attach it to the ducting with a small piece of pcv pipe(remove stock air box assembly).I did this on my 86 TPI T/A with no troubles. You might be able to use 88 and up GTA ducting which is much more straight shot to motor, also done on my T/A.I paid about $40 through GM for the GTA ducting, and around $30 for the filter, also looked alot better than the 86 air ducting.
