Help with Steering Columns! Urgent
After rereading I basically wanted to say that I want to switch to CC and tilt. I have a 1988 Camaro Convertible SC, auto, If VATS is the electronic key, than no I do not have that. Thanks
I am wanting to switch to a tilt/CC steering column from my non-tilt/non-CC. what do I need and how hard is this to do, I am hitting the junk yard tonight so please help. If it wont work ill have a Steering column for sale :-) Since I do not have power windows or door locks :-( I was thinking of placing the controls there, because I have a GT steering wheel. Also can the old cylinder lock be used on the new steering column? Thanks guys

swapping columns isn't that hard, just a few bolts and wiring harnesses to remove. you'd need all the CC stuff from a donnor car and that would be hard to connect. i'm pretty sure the 2 columns would be the same as far as bolting up and wiring connections except for the CC, but i'm not 100% sure since i've not swapped one.

The CC controls are a separate wire, so you could just leave that unplugged.
To swap in the cruise control, let's see what you need:
Turn signal level with cruise switch on it.
Cruise Control computer (behind the dash, near the right defrost vent).
Vacuum "ball" reservoir (under the left headlight area on Camaros).
Vacuum servo (near charcoal canister on Camaros) with cable.
Add-on bracket to attach cruise cable to throttle cable bracket.
VSS (if you don't have one, mine didn't--if you have an auto you will already have it)
Pedal switches (one for the clutch and one for the brake)
Lots of wire and vacuum line
.
It's not a terribly easy swap. Mine hasn't worked since I swapped motors, I think the cruise computer got damaged somehow. I'm more worried about getting the car running than fixing the cruise at the moment.

Cruise Control Computer...
If 99Hawk120 is still around, I have a question for him regarding his reply. When you talk about the 'cruise control computer', I presume you're talking about the normal vehicle computer. What is different about the computer on a vehicle with cruise versus a non-cruise control computer?
I'm adding power windows, locks, tilt, intermittent wipers and cruise control to my IROC.

not to hijack but do manuals have CC? I found a ball on my 88 under the driver side battery tray, I'm guessing thats what that is right?

Cruise Control Computer
89RsPower, do you know about the 'Cruise Control Computer'? I have someone who is parting out an 86 Camaro and I need to let him know if this is the same as the car's computer or if it's a seperate unit.

It's a separate unit. There is a smaller black box with the only writing on it being "AC" and probably a part number. The ECM has two huge connectors and is a rather large metal box compared to the tiny CC computer. There is a single connector that has around six pins that runs into the CC computer. Don't forget to grab the bracket that it is mounted to that is actually bolted to the dash so you don't have to hear the thing rattling around all the time...
You only need to remove the lower convenience panel (same color as the rest of the dash, not the thing mounted in the footwell with the light) to get at this box.

Anytime. You might want to look to see what you already have in terms of the necessary harness connectors before you go cutting and splicing wires into the dash harness, to save unneccessary headaches later.

OK, I now have all the parts previosuly mentioned by 99Hawk120; Does anyone know here I can find detailed instructions for adding these components as well as some 'exploded' diagrams showing how they should attach to the vehicle and where. Thanks for everyone's help. :hail:
