knock sensor...

i wanna get a timing gear drive, but the ones i look at all say not to use with computer controlled engines with knock sensors. is there a way to either remove the knock sensor or adjust it to run with the gears and not screw up.

I don't know why you wouldn't be able to run it with the knock sensor, but if you pull the knock sensor your computer will never work right, you'll keep tripping trouble codes. The only way that you could really do it I think would be to put a carb on the engine.

Thats just my guess though...

The reason they say not to run gear drive with a computer is because there's a good chance the knock sensor will hear the noise as detonation and the computer will respond by retarding the timing.
I like the sound of a gear drive as much as anyone, but with a computer controlled motor, you should just stick with a good double roller chain setup from Cloyes or Edelbrock.
Also, the benefits of running a gear drive(timing accuracy and longetivity)may be outweighed by the drawbacks. Most racers are now using belt drives, because they are easy to make cam timing changes with and (unlike the gear drive)they don't transmit vibration/harmonics from the crank into the valvetrain.

Some people get codes, most others don't. If you do, wrap some teflon tape on the threads and you'll get a less sensitive sensor that won't pick up the noise.
