How do I get my car on car stands?

Hopefully a simple answer to a simple question. I have a heavy duty jack...but it can't jack the car up high enough to get a car stand under it. What do I need to do to be able to do this? Is there some kind of adapter to the jack that raises the effective height? When I need to get under the car I usually drive up on some ramps...but I want to take all my wheels off, redo brakes, do some suspension things, drive shaft loop, that sort...and I would like to get my car on car stands.

you must have some tall jackstands or a small jack! Best bet is to go buy shorter satnds or a jack that goes taller. I have 4-ton stands and they're very tall, but I can still get my car up on them. maybe you're jacking in the wrong place. take the end you want raised. now, go to that subframe and go as far away from the end yuo want up. jack at this point on the subframe. this will get the ends up higher.

I had same problem with one piece jack stands they where to tall. I went out and got 4 ton adjustable stands at the lowest point they just fit under the car. remember to use a piece of wood between jack and sub frame or points on stands can colapse or dent frame. good luck nativ

I've been wondering the same thing. I've just usually had to have one end of the car off the ground. I've used car ramps and jack stands.

How do you get the car off all fours? Do you lift the front, then the rear; or do you go from one side to the other side?

I think it's best to go from front to back, but that's just my opinion

Choose your points:

I've had to fabricate small (4" tall) ramps to get the car high enough to get my floor jack under the front crossmember. She's sprung pretty low...

I wouldn't leave the car jacked up for long with the stands under the front sway bar. Put them under the lower "A frames" for height or under the "torque boxes" for free hanging suspension. The torque boxes are the widest, strongest part of the frame rail between the lower control arm and trans crossmember.
The rear "torque boxes" are just in front
of the rear lower control arm attaching point on the rear sub frame. Other wise the car could sag over time. Never jack the corner of a unibody car. Jack either the whole front end or the whole back end at once.
