Why do you ask? Is your engine knocking?
I vaguely remember reading something about testing the sensor/knock retard system by giving the engine block a good whack with a hammer and then watching to see if the timing is retarded.

If it is bad your "check engine soon" light should be coming on. The following instructions are from a member of this site and it worked for me when I had a bad sensor. Good luck. Okay, to check the codes (will tell exactly what is wrong with the car), have the car off, key out. Now look at your little diagnostic port under the dash. use a wire and bridge the two upper right ports. make sure they're the only two ports being bridged. next turn the key to run...DO NOT START YOUR CAR OR YOU WILL FRY THE COMPUTER. once you turn the key on be ready to watch the check engine light. at first it will flash one long time, then two quick times. this signals a code 12 which means the computer is functioning properly. this code 12 will flash 2 times. now, any codes that the computer has stored will be displayed. for example, it might flash two long times, and 3 quick times. this would be a code 23. I'm not sure if you can find out what the codes mean on this webpage but i know if you look around on the internet you can find it somewhere. Hope it helps, good luck.
