EGR block off plate?

I am going to be putting Vortec heads and SDPC tpi base on soon. Would I be ok making my own EGR block off plates by cutting a piece of sheet metal to fit? I know the whole argument for keeping it and I have decided it is not worth the trouble. I will also have a custom chip, so no worry about codes. Anyway, can I just make this plate, or is there something more to it than a flat sheet of metal? Thanks.

I just asked about this a little while ago. A flat piece of metal should be fine.
