Crankcase Vent Tube Problem

UGH! this thing is so small yet it causes big problems.

I just had my EGR stuff replaced, and this crank case vent thing that connect into the air filter (the PCV grommet connects into it) is giving me such a big headache....since I bought the damn car, the piece of crap hose keeps on disconnecting from the grommet....It was locked, held well in place just 3 days ago and I checked it today and I saw the vent completely disassembled from the PCV grommet, and this isnt the first time its happened.

The retainer clip doesnt do that much, that keeps falling off as well. When I try to connect the crankcase to the PCV grommet it wont budge, everytime I try and connect it to the grommet and proceed to put the retainer clip in it, it wont clip on...the crankcase tube seems alot shorter than it was previously....Does anyone know how to quickly take care of this annoyance....its really getting on my nerves and I cant keep driving around like that.

I want to settle the score once and for all

Are you talking about this little gizmo?

If so, on my Caprice, which was an LG4 but had a similar setup, I put a the hose right up against the filter housing and put a hose clamp on the hose. Never came off again.

no, that was originally the problem, the end nozzle of that grommet broke off onto the tube that connects onto it from the air filter to the intake manifold...

I replaced the whole thing about 2 weeks ago, the new problem is, I cannot get the tube to hold onto that PCV valve...

Everytime something breaks or snaps off and its getting on my nerves, badly...I cant understand why its having such a hard time staying on

The hose likely stretched over the years, then hardened from more years of heat, oil vapors, and aging. A new vent hose would probably be a good idea.

Aren't the PCV valve and crankcase breather tube 2 different diameters? (I don't have the engine to check anymore).

I'm going from memory here, but I think the PCV tube is about 1/2 the ID of the crankcase breather filter tube.
