Real quick question: Do the 50mm roller cam bearings install the same way as the normal bearings? Same type of tool, technique, etc? Or is there some special roller bearing tool and procedure?

Edit: Oh, and has anyone ever used the Comp Cams composite distributor gear to know if they really do wear better than the bronze gears?

 

The roller cam bearings use a special installer although you may be able to use a regular installer. I have no idea about the composite distributor gear though.

Yes they are a different diameter from the stock cam bore. And unlike regular cam bushings, which are 3 different outer diameters in a SBC, those roller cam bearings are all 5 the same outer diameter. IIRC they also require a different cam journal diameter.

People with dry-sump oil systems (no oil pump driven by the dist) get good results from the plastic gear. People with wet sump oil systems (stock, where the dist drives the OP) not so good. It looks like they last about the same as bronze in a wet-sump system, maybe a little better. But I haven't heard from enough people to know for sure, and I haven't used one yet.
