Loss of power over 3500 RPM
Loss of power over 3500 RPM
87 T/A with a 305 TPI and 700R4. when I leave it in a low gear like 1st, and I punch it to shift at the yellow line, I sometimes notice a big loss of power over 3500 RPMs. What could cause this? Timing?
It has new platinum plugs, msd 8mm wires, new fuel filter, screens removed from MAF, flow booster on throttle body, and a conicle K&N filter where the stock airbox was and a stock 3" y pipe and cat w/ dynomax catback, underdrive pulleys, and i removed the belt from the smog pump. It is getting enough air in and out, but could it be starved of fuel? Sometimes it did this before these mods when it was bone stock.

does it pick back up anywhere after that?

My car does the same think. It feels like it is out of breath over 3500 rpm.
Other days it is very responsive and pulls hard all the way.
I think it might be a knock sensor getting a false reading.
Anybody?

I'm not saying this is the problem, but my car did something similar.
Anytime I nailed the throttle to ride it up to redline, it ran outta breath, then just shifted. If I tried holding it out longer in that gear, it just fell on it's face.
I found out it was the throttle cable. It had slide outta the housing and was binding up. It knew some how that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, so that's what it tried to do.
After I fixed it, I had a car that wasn't so slow anymore. Still slow, but not AS slow.
It can't hurt to check yours,
AJ
