Their was probably quite a variance in weight over the years so grab yourself a gram scale the next time you have the parts in hand.

He's talking about the length of the connecting rod. All factory SBCs have 5.7" rods, except 400s which are 5.565"

*shrugs* So I assumed people knew how much their internal engine parts weigh
And yes ... of course I was wondering about the 5.7 INCH connecting rods

Well I know how much my rods weigh, but I don't know anything about the weight of anybody else's.

Give your local GM dealer a call, they should have specs on the parts.
As for my rods weights, only ***(why is g0d sensored?) knows and they are probably all different weights

I simply wanted to have it for some calculations .. i.e. .. how much weight one could save (if one would even save) by going to lighter rods .. maybe 6.0 length .. and light hyper(ah heck
I give up on spelling that one) pistons

I have an '86 LG4 shortblock and '87 LB9 shortblock sitting in the garage. The '86 has X rods, the '87 some lightweight thing. I haven't taken either apart, but if I had to guess, I'd guess they weigh about 20-30 grams different from each other.
Of course, to date I've had absolutely no incentive to take either apart to find out how much they weigh.

Oh, the pink rods in my ZZ3 shortblock weighed 604-608 grams with caps, bolts, & nuts prior to balancing.
