Fuel Injector Cleaner...waste of $$$?
What are your thoughts on fuel injector cleaner additives? Are they worth it or is it just a waste on money?

In my opinion, pretty much a waste of money. They may make a slight difference on a car that is in really bad shape are far as the fuel system is concerned, but for cars that are in any decent shape whatsoever, they are a waste.
Just my thoughts,

Fuel injector cleaner is one of those things.. if its doing its job you'll never notice anything change... if not then you got problems. I would run some once in awhile wont hurt anything and it might just help. But dont expect any change in performance.

I believe in them. After about 175,000kms on the motor, we had the heads pulled off and the top of the pistons were a tan color with some aluminum still showing here and there.
The way I see it is, a few dollars here and there can't hurt. Even IF they didn't work, it's just a few dollars. But consider the positive outcome if they did work, even just a little bit.

I bought my car a couple months ago from a guy in Michigan who had been storing it in a barn. The car is in practically new condition (all mods in sig I have done). On the drive back to Texas, I put fuel injector cleaner in with each tank after the first fillup.
Result: 1st tank: 22 mpg
2nd tank (w/injector cleaner): 23 mpg
3rd tank on (injector cleaner for
3rd, 4th, and 5th tanks): 26 mpg
virtually all miles were highway miles. Was this just because I was driving a car that hadn't been driven more than a few miles in the last five years or did the injector cleaner help? I don't know, but those are the numbers (I wrote them down at each fillup so that I could compare).
Now I get about 18.5 mpg with mixed stop and go , regular city, and highway driving. I got 22mpg on one tank, but I have no idea why.
