rear hatch won't shut

My rear hatch lid won't shut anymore. I can actually lift the latch up and down with my hands. It is almost like there is some gear stripped. The latch itself still works, but when I shut the hatch the latch moves and won't stay stationary to latch to the hatch.

What do I need to do?

Down inside the housing there should be a switch or button, this raises and lowers the motor. When the motor is lowered it won't work, this most likely happened to you. Just find the switch and you'll hear and see the motor raise. This has happened to me several times.

I found the switch. The switch isn't what I thought it would be. It is actually in the latch itself. When the bar from the hatch latches in the latch, a small rocker switch is pushed in.
Thanks for the help.
