Fresh distributor

I have a quick question I am installing a new distributor in my friends 87 iroc. When I put the dampener at 0 TDC where am I suppose to have the metal part on the rotor pointing. I have the #1 cylinder at TDC right now.

to #1 on the cap... So it could go in pretty much any way yo want.

But if i remember right, pointed between the drivers side fender and headlight. also if your running a vacume advance setup the vacume port should be pointed towars the passenger side tire.

There's 2 TDC's per combustion cycle remember....

TDC compression and TDC exhaust. Be sure it's on the compression stroke. Or, if the engine is already put together, you can look at the valves. If both are closed, it's on the compression. Or, if it doesn't fire up or backfire/sputters, try flipping the distributor 180°.
