Wont crank Help please

Ok Got a brand new powermaster mini starter for when i put my longtubes in the starter has been in a week and today I got in the car it cranked over a little bit then it stopped and wouldent crank anymore then I turned key off then on and it started to crank by itself.

After that I push started it and made it to a friends house where I shut it off and tried to start it again, when i did that the starter gear didnt kick out but the motor started spinning and when i let the key out of crank position it kept cranking.

After a scurry to disconnect the battery I put the car in the air and inspected my electrical (expecting something to be melted on the headder) everything was fine so I charged the battery and now when I turn the key to crank all my lights go dim the starter maked a whining noise (doesent spin) and seems like it drains the batter instantly.

So I think the starter is shot.
any other info would be appreciated because I'm at a loss thanks

AL

Kind of sounds solenoid related. I'm not sure what the powermaster uses for a solenoid, though.

Though, when you say the motor was spinning but the gear didn't engage, did you have a peek see under the car and look at it visually while some one was cranking (or a starter interupt switch works too).

Often times, with a starter, one of the best things to do is to go under and see what's going on while it's actually trying to work.

At that time I was busy running for a wrench to disconnect the battery (key was off and starter cranking) the thing sounded like it was going to explode

Only reason it gets me soo bad is that I drove it to where I was when it ****ed up

I had it on the battery charger and when i would try to start it it would make a terrible whining noise not turn the engine and it seemed to almost completely discharge the battery in a matter of about 5 seconds I'm confused
