A.I.R. Removal

Two Questions.

1: How will it help?

2: Where can I get instruction on removal?

The only real benefit IMHO is that it cleans up the engine compartment. It really doesn't take any HP at all to turn so you won't get any SOTP difference. If you have a v-belt setup, all you need to do is take the pump, hoses, and belt off and plug the exhaust manifold/headers. If you have a serpentine belt (90-92) then you will need to buy a new belt and route it differently. There is a tech article off the main page on this site that gives you a diagram for the belt.

Hey man, check out the tech article. It will tell you how to re-route the new belt you will need. (Belt part # Dayco 968K6) I just removed all my smog parts. You will need to get some plugs for the exhaust manifolds. I went to the hardware store and got brass plugs, and put a little bit of locktite on them (Medium strength). Just take the tubing that you take off the exhaust manifolds with you to the hardware store, so you get the correct threaded caps, they are an odd size. One other thing, just be real careful when you remove the two bolts that hold the pump itself to the bracket (The upper and lower bolts) On my car they were torx (size T-45) Be real careful not to strip them out. I stripped the top one, and had a hell of a time chiseling at it to get it off. Other than that, it is a fairly easy job, and best of all you will realize that a passenger side valve cover actually lurks under the hood.
Take care
Mike

I was told that pulling the AIR stuff off will give you trouble codes?? If this is so what do i do to kill the codes? Get a new chip and how much will that cost? I can't burn my own
