Belt & Pulley help needed!!!
I'm removing the tpi engine out of my 89 Camaro. The computer, smog pump, etc... is history. I'm going to keep the A/C and power steering. Do I stick with the serpentene belt system and stock aluminum mounting brackets, and if so what do I do about the void left by the smog air pump??? Or is it better to switch over to a V belt system, If so where is a source of suppliers tho get the parts to make the switch from???
I'm planning on using the existing alternator and A/C compressor are there any problems associated with using them if I go with a V type belt. I know many people out there have already done this and I would really appreciate your advice on what kind of setup you ended up using.
Thanks in advance, Bruce

which heads are u using? the heads from the T.P.I? or older pre 86?
I did the swap from my 89, and left everything.
The heads were fromt he 70s.
The only problem was that 2 of the mounting bolts didnt go back in, cuz the heads didnt have holes for them. but ive put a few thousand miles on it, and havent had any problems.
just leave the smog pump in, and remove all the hoses that come off of it.

Madmax, Thanks for the link to the article. It takes a hell of a load off of my mind knowing how to accomplish the task and that I dont need to buy any more aftermarket parts. (the engine project has pretty much exhausted all of my funds)!!!!
