Help! How much hp out of my 400 SBC?
Okay, I just built myself a 400 SBC, and I would like to know a guess-timate of the hp and my quarter-mile times I could be making. Thanks!
Bored .30 over
Forged TRW flat-top pistons
56 cc 305 heads ported and polished
aluminum "Z-28" intake
Edelbrock 750 carb
.515 .300 Lunati camshaft
MSD 6AL ignition w/ MSD coil and ACCELL wires
and a built B&M TH-350 trans w/ titanium sprag, 3 in band, shift kit. just about bulletproof
3000 B&M stall
3.73 ring and pinion
Auburn limited slip diff.
All of this is in a '84 Camaro Z-28 "5.0L H.O."
Any thing you can tell me would be of great help. All I know is this thing runs great!
Thanks.

Depends a lot on how well you ported
those 305 heads (what valves etc). But the power should be right around 400 to 415 hp.
the car should go right around 12.6 to 13.0
@ 108mph.
Because of the high compression ratio, high
octane race gas will be nessessary.

Thanks! I am running a mix of aviation fuel and 92 octane right now so my pinging is gone. Anyone else have any ideas?

that seems a little fast to me, the 400 is a big breather and needs a high flowing head, those 305 heads are not going be be enought, also the 58 CC heads on i will assume flat top piston 400 will have your compression in the 11:1 to 11.5:1 area, way too much to use pump gas you can eather swap to a 72 or 76cc head or keep on paying alot for the high octain gas, also i have a set of 400 76cc heads if your interested,

I also have a set of AFR 190's that are 76cc. I'd be willing to sell em to you if I can find another set of heads soon. You'll need rocker arms, but other than that you'd be set.

You guys are trying to sell me stuff aren't you? LOL. Do you think I could beat my cousin's 92 5.0L w/ exhaust w/ this combo now though, he only has 2.73 rear and some flows. Thanks
