starter dragging
starter dragging
Replaced my ignition switch under the dash, spark plugs and wires and the starter 3 times. I was told I might need a higher amp battery(about 750 cold cranking amps). When I start the car sometimes the only thing that happens is the dash lights come on and other times it drags 2 or 3 times then starts. Please help me, I really like the car, but I am about ready to burn it.

If that is after the car is good and hot that it doesn't want to restart, look at the starter solenoid. Mine wouldn't even try to turn the car over while it was hot. After 20-30 minutes it would finally spring to life and manage to barely turn the engine over. A remote mount solenoid and kit from Mr Gasket fixed it 100% for me. Solenoid and kit ran like $30.
If it's while the car is still cold, believe or not if you have a corroded battery cable/post it will do that. I had that problem as well, sounds pretty similar to yours. Starter felt and sounded like it was dead as it barely tried to turn over the engine. Cleaned up a barely corroded positive battery post/cable connection there and all was well. Try starting it up several times, and then shut it off and touch the connection to the battery. If it's hot you've got some resistance there. That was how I initially discovered the problem. Clean up the connections real good at the battery if you haven't before you give up and start burning your car...
I'm assuming you have a fairly new battery that you know is good. I don't run anything special for the battery, just stock replacement. I don't see why you would need to either...
