More Problems....

Hey everybody,

Here's the deal-I go to start my car after class 2 days ago and it sounds like I'm starting a kitchen appliance.... Kinda grinding-more whining than grinding though-it does it twice then starts right up-seemed to work everytime if I took it out of gear (it's a 5 speed)-then that theory went out the window today. I don't know what the crud it is-several people have heard it and don't know-any thoughts?

Thanks

not exactly sure by your description but I'm gonna reach for a bad starter drive. Does the starter sound like it's not attatched to anything? Have someone look at the belt/belts and see if they turn while you're trying to start it under these conditions. Sometimes the starter solenoid does not engage the starter drive all the way or at all and it will either freewheel or grind at the flywheel. If this is the case, I would just replace the starter (unless it's fairly new) and inspect the flywheel for damage. You can repair the starter but reman starters are so cheap it's not really feasible if the starter has a lot of miles on it.
