NFB changing timing chain on 350 carbed
NFB changing timing chain on 350 carbed
Ok, my friend has like a 197? truck with a 350 in it, and he says the timing
chain is screwed, couple of the teeth on the gear are stripped, anyways, does
anyone know any tips or how long it will take to replace it, since i know
almost nothing about changing a timing chain other then ya gonna take the water
pump, crank pully and alot more crap.

That's about all there is to it... it's about a 2-3 hour job if you have all the tools and parts right there and don't run into any problems.
You'll need a timing set (duh); gasket set with front seal, and "Speedy Sleeve" since if the motor has enough miles that the gear failed, it also has a groove where the seal rides; a timing cover, since the chain probably has worn a hole in it down at the bottom on the pass side (they nearly always do that); and now is a great time to put a water pump, fan clutch and radiator hoses on it.
For tools you'll need the usual sockets and wrenches and stuff; a pair of enormous pliers, for turning the engine to line it up; and a balancer puller and installer.
Put some sealer on the water pump bolts. They go into water.
