New Motor but burning More help!

Ok I have checked the PVC and it is in a baffled hole. The Vortec heads are unmodified except for milling them and affing .500 lift springs. I am running the LT-4 cam with .476 I and .480 exhaust. Could the rocker hitting the valve guides cause the oil smoke from the exhaust. I did have about .025 take off the heads to lower the chamber CC's could it come from the bottom of the intake. I have not done a compression test yet. The car seems to smoke evenly at idle and reving, seems to smoke more as it warms up.

Thanks for the input

Brian you might be hitting the seals with the retainers and that be causing a leak(s).

(BUMMER)Now that it's together. It sounds like a great combo.

I checked the Vortec's that I ran and they hit the seals at .465. I added .060 shims and offset keepers .050 and got the number up to .515 which gave some clearance to the retainers.

By the way I ran the same cam and rockers that you are using.

Hope this helps!

If that being my problem is there any way to change the shim and retainers with the heads on the car?

Yes Just like you would change the springs out. Remove the old parts add the shims, install springs, install retainers and install the new keepers.

FYI I have found out through some measuring since I have the heads apart that you can also take about .050 off the bottom of the stock Vortec retainers for even more clearance.

I would also upgrade those springs at this time. I beleive that the stockers are living on borrowed time with that lift cam regardless what has been said in other posts.
It probably depends on how hard you run it and how high you take the rpm's.

The .050 offset keepers are a standard Crane part for 7 degrees retainers.

Happy Turkey day.
