Guide plates w/Comp Cam SA Magnum Roller Rockers?
I searched a bunch of old threads about this and found conflicting information. So I wanted to post this up to provide some clarification for myself.
My motor is a 350TPI w/083 heads that have been opened up to 2.02/1.60 with screw in studs and guideplates.
I am installing a set of CompCam Magnum Roller Rockers which are self aligning. The opening for where the pushrod goes through the head is a slotted (rectangular shape w/rounded ends) opening, not a rounded/circle opening.
The pushrods I am using are CompCam specific for the 87-97 w/roller cam. They are hardened for use with guide plates also.
Based on this information do I need to use guideplates?
My thought is no because of the opening in the head being the rectangular shape. I am thinking using the guideplates will ultimately conflict with the movement of the pushrod which could lead to damage somewhere in the drivetrain (bent valve).
Please let me know if I correct with this assumption or not. Thanks!

So you are saying I need to get non self aligning rockers and use the guide plates?

Based on the previous response is using my 083 heads w/self aligning rocker arms without the guideplates the way to go?

Could self aligning rockers used with guide plates cause bent valves due to the interference the guide plates may cause?
