Head swap?

I have a 305 TBI that i may be building to a little more power. NOt massive amounts, but a decent bump up from stock. I know the stock heads suck. But i have a set of good 601 heads off a 305 out of a camaro. (acctually, the complete motor, but it needs a rebuild). I'm still in debate if i go carb or tune the TBI. But i want to know if these heads would work/be worth while, and whats invovled to use them. I know i need a new intake and valve covers, but thats in the plan anyways. What about exhaust? Will headers for my later engine work with the earler heads? Since im in california, i need to keep it emissions legal, or do an every 2 year swap.

Don't know much about those heads but if the valves are bigger, they are probably better. Along with that, yes get a better intake and camshaft for your RPM range. As far as the TBI unit, I am sure it can handle the horsepower that you are looking for. Programming equipment, I spent $9 on the cord, $120 on a laptop, $55 on an eprom programmer, and the software is free (TunerProRT). Also look into a cheap plate system for an extra 75 - 100 hp.

look up sitting bulls head porting thread, it's on 601 heads. They're good ones.

headers and exhaust will give the biggest bang for buck (and no loss in fuel economy or anything), so i'd recommend that.

in california you are very limited on what you can do, so you may have to keep the TBI on....

Or move, that sunshine and warm weather must really get on your nerves eh? I love chiseling ice off my car though...

What warm weather?? I spent all day working in the snow. Not all of california is sunny. We average 15-20 feet of snow...on the ground....every year.
I actually already have a cat back exhaust and no cat right now. Headers to come. Just wanted to see if my heads where worth using. And i can do whatever i want, as long as im willing to take the time to swap everything back once every two years for a smog check...and as long as i dont get pulled over and have a cop ask to see under the hood!
