do my AC delco rapid fires not need gaskets?

I thought plugs were supposed to have small metal round gaskets...

There are 2 styles of plugs, commonly referred to as washer-seat and taper-seat. Nearly all heads made since the early 70s use tapered seats which don't use washers. AFAIK all SBC heads made since 1971 have used tapered seats.

Generally, aluminum heads used the gasketed plugs. The L98 aluminum heads do use the ones with gaskets, but a typical SBC head does not.

ok, i understand now, until now all engine iv worked on have had aluminum heads so thats why i was thinkign that. thanks guys.
