Need motor for new camaro!
Well i just picked up a 91 maro, its got a severely foobared 305 in it. I think my lawnmower is pushin more ponies.
I want to go very very cheap on a buildup for this as i only paid $300 for the car
I have a 350 4bolt block sitting here i planned on building up for my 84 but i think i will be going bigger and better for the 84. So whats your suggestions for this chunk of iron?
Its a vey low budget daily driver to cruise around in while im working on the 84 buildup. Im thinking some cheap iron vortec heads and a edelbrock intake and a holley 600cfm carb. OEM cam and hyd lifters. I would throw on the 882 heads i have sitting here but that would just be an insult to the car its in
Will edel #2701 intake work on vortec heads? i see some intakes are listed for 96-up vortecs, are those the ones i need?
That should breathe some new life into this severely beaten chunk of tin i think.

Use the heads that are currently on your 305. Do a little porting and polish and slap them on. A regular intake will bolt to these. This will save money for a good cam. Try a comp XE 262 or XE268. This setup will make plenty of power and be really cheap.

The heads are probably equally as bad as 882s or maybe even 882s
When i get it apart ill grab the casting # to post and see if its a worthy head. It would be nice to not buy new heads that saves alot of $$

If it's a 91 RS it's a 305 TBI engine. They came with the lousy swirl-port heads. Not exactly a performance-oriented choice.
350 with 882s and your Edlebrock Performer on top will do just fine with some cheap flattop pistons and a mild cam. No, it won't set the world on fire, but you wanted cheap, right?
First thing to get your brain wrapped around is that you can probably build the motor for less than you'll have to put into the exhaust system. A complete set of headers, y-pipe, cat-back (plus a shop to patch in a piece of open pipe where you cat used to be since this is obviously a non-emissions setup) will run you around $1000 when all's said and done. NOTHING will make good power through a stock TBI exhaust system.

Vortec heads use a "vortec" intake. Edelbrock 2701 will not fit vortec heads.
If you want "cheap",, find a set of 305 heads casting ending in
"416" (carbed 305 motors) Home port them and take them in for a new valve job
install new 1.94x 1.60 valves and "Z28" springs. Drill and roll pin the rocker studs.
Edelbrock #2701 among other intakes, will fit these heads.
rebuild the 350 with HP345NP flat top pistons and slide in a Lunati Voodoo cam # 60101
This 305 heads are real "cheap and when home ported with larger 350sized valves make a great cheap performance head for a 350.
Build the combination like I suggested and you'll get a great
"daily driver" that will dust more than its fair share "light to light"
Even in the snow
You can read all about preparing these heads at home by searching Sitting Bull's threads on the subject.
