I don't know how much research you've done on them, but I haven't seen anyone who tested or used those heads without a pocket port job.
Before I ordered mine, I asked World's tech if I should do anything about porting (saying I was thinking of following Standard Abrasive's guidelines). Their response was an endorsement of the SA method, but they said "concentrate on the bowls". I did the full SA job (myself) anyway, and am quite pleased with the results.
I did so many other things it's hard to say exactly what the heads themselves did, but I am sure the other mods would not have been as effective without the heads and/or porting work. Popular Hot Rodding did a TPI dyno test a little over a year ago, comparing stock 3-angle valve job heads to pocket-ported World 305's - they showed a 50 hp improvement with the heads alone (used long-tube headers and near-stock cam for both tests).

Yes, absolutely. A friend who needed a valve job and new valve guides recently put them on his Bird and got a nice top-to -bottom boost on his 305 TBI 5-speed car. I tried to talk him into letting me pocket port them, but he was pretty nervous about the whole deal going in anyway, and bolted them on straight.
Now he is kicking himself for not doing the pocket port, but he is thrilled with the results of the 305 Torquer heads.
