Heat soak; think I killed my starter (or wounded it)
I'd just started my new engine, broke in the cam by running it at 2500 for 25 min in my driveway. Anyway, apparently things got a little hot in the engine bay, and I heat soaked the starter. After about 30 min she fired back up and I haven't had a problem with heat soak since. But the problem is that the starter never quite came back to me. It just cranks a little slow, no matter if the engine is hot or cold. It always starts, but I'd like to think that's because the engine is nice and healthy. So did I do permanent damage to the starter? If so, is it gonna get worse? Should I replace it now before it completely craps out on me?
Or is it possible that I really didn't hurt the starter at all, but that it cranks slow because of the new engine (being tight or something)?

when i put my 454, i had the typical heat soak problems, but even when the car was barely warm, I'd would still crank slower than normal. Clean ALL your battery cables, terminals, ground connections etc. Any extr a resistance can cause an extra load on the starter. Replacing a bunk + battery cable worked in my case. Also make sure your intial timing is at a RESONABLE level.

i had a similar problem when i put my 400 in, with the old 301 it would spin fine, but the 400 would bairly turn, put in a high output battery and no problems, i dont think 25 mins of running would BBQ a starter i'd make sure your battery cables are clean and you have a good high output battery (at least 600 cranking amps)
