Replaced my Valve seals but......
Okay...on friday my brother in law who is a mechanic, and I who wasn't a mechanic and who needed help
we replaced my intake gasket and valve seals. Well everyone told me that the bluish smoke coming out of my tail pipes after I started the car was that my valve seals were worn out. So we replaced them and sure enough they were toasted. After that I started up my car, still smoked, I figure it was jus left over still on the cylinder walls, and a couple days later and after numerous highway runs it will still smoke on start up...
What gives here?? am I doing somthing wrong? Is it somthing else...I jus dont know anymore....Oh yea and my car still starts like crap Worse then ever now that my MAF sensor is bad....again...it takes like 3 cranks for it to turn over then it almost stalls after that....I dont know anymore please help!! thanks

it could be a few things. leaky injectors or most likely, your valve guides are shot. only way to replace is to remove the heads. as far as starting problems go... it could be any one of your sensors.

Your valve guides are worn out. It is common for them to wear out on SBC heads, and roller-cams exacerbate the problem.
Either get new guides installed or valve guide liners. Knurling the valve guides is a temporary repair that will last 15k miles at most.

If I were you I would lap grind the valves guides. That might help.

What kind of seals did you put in? Not all are created equal.

I'm not sure what kind of seals it was, they looks like the umbrella ones compared to the old standard O-rings, im not sure im gonna have to ask my brother he worked on it for the most part. I have reasonable suspicion that i have a bad fuel injector, cause I went to start my car this morning and the smoke wasnt blue it looked more white and laitly I have had a strong smell of gas after I have started it...I need to find a fuel pressure gauge to check hopefully I can throw in some new injectors, probably help my starting problem too, sounds like it doesnt get enough fuel after its cranked over, kind spudders and chokes for a couple seconds after I start it. I know that its a common problem with these TPI F-bodies and starting problems cause I've read it on here before and everyone has sed that its because of a leaky fuel injector and it takes so long to start because the engine is flooded because of all the fuel that has leaked into the cylinders. I'am going to try that see how it works out. Has anyone else had this starting problem before?? IF you fixed it let me know how please...

Umbrella seals don't seal up very well. And if the guides are on their way out, they do squat.
You need the positive-seal type that is made of what feels like rubber with little metal clips around the outside to apply pressure. It clamps onto the valve guide boss and makes a positive seal around the valve stem. They're the ONLY kind that will have any chance of sealing up on so-so guides.
They will fit on your heads- I have done a set exactly like that before. Available at any good auto parts store.
BTW- you only need to put these seals on the intake side. Umbrella seals will work fine on the exhaust side since it runs a lot hotter and under pressure, not vacuum like the intake side.

My body had the same problem and he replaced his oil seals with the one that Damon is suggesting and still his car smokes at sturtup.(not as asmuch though)
They will help but will not eliminate the smoke.
Just so you know.

Damon, I know which ones your talking about the seals he put in were the ones with the metal rings around it. I still smokes at start up but it decreases everyday, I mean come on I've been driving it around like that for about 60,000 miles now so mabye it just needs to be drivin a little bit more, I also smell raw fuel after I start my car, and my car has that hard starting problem, is that a leaky fuel injector???

ok try this put some smoke-b-gone in your engine and if this corrects the problem than you need to put in some new intake seals, if you still have smoke than you might have bad rings and if this is the case do a compression check you might have fixed part of the problem but you might have a different one.
You said the smoke was white that indicates water leaking in some were. Oil will definately make a blue smoke.

Could the white smoke be gas leaking into the combustion chamber from a leaky fuel injector? Becuase I smell raw fuel coming out of the exhaust after I start it. I already replaced the intake gasket if thats what ur talking about...
