Silly electricla Q?

Posted this in electronics forum but its dead in there and kinda need an answer so here goes

Ok soo I put some hooker LTS on the car and burnt up my pos battery cable ok no big deal got a new one now trying to figure out best way to keep from toasting it again (60 bucks a hit).

So now comes the retarded question of the day. Can I wire up the other wires that go to the post on the starter (red with brown fusable links) straight to the battery or alternator? Doing so would give me alot more room between the headder and the block to play with for my POS battery lead so I can actually drive the car for more than a week

Any help is appreciated.

Try a remote mounted solenoid. Ford uses them.

I cant really think of any reason why it would be a bad idea.
