here's a silly power wire question...

Ok, I used to have two amps in the back, one for bass and one for mids and highs... but then I got a four channel rockford fosgate that requires 4 ga. power wire. The two wires that went to the old amps were both 8 ga. so for the time being I just hooked BOTH 8 ga. wires to the amp. two 8 ga.= one 4 ga. right? it has worked fine so far... and if it's safe to do I'd really rather not pull all that wire out and put new 4 ga. in... but, if it's unsafe I don't want that either... thanks for any info... and I told You it was a silly question... hehe thanks!

It should work ok. Make sure you have them properly fused. i.e. if the reqs are for 4ga and fused with a 60 amp fuse, then if you have 2 8ga wires, each wire must be fused with 30 amp fuses, NOT 60 amp fuses.

Actually, I do believe that 4 8awg make 1 4awg.

Just a technicality, but you should be fine

For some reason it just sticks in my head that it takes 4 8awg. But I give, I guess it's only 2.

Yeah, I thought it would be ok... I forgot about the 2 30 amp fuses instead of the 60, though... I forgot to mention that both the 8 ga. wires are from the battery (of course) with the remote coming from the fuse box... but, Ya'll figured that out.. Thanks a bunch guys! Brant
