Question about the CC carb systems

Just bought an 85 maro with 305, most likely still has the CC carb setup but the guy said it was TBI and i havent looked under the hood yet.

Does the Computer on a CC carb setup control the timing advance too?

What all can be done for tuning on a CC carb setup? Would it be worth my while to use it on the 350 im putting in there or just a regular carb setup?

If it's carbed, it's possible that it never was computer controlled.

True too, lol

I cant wait till i get the car in the yard and find out exactly whats going on with it...

For all i know it could be a big empty hole under the hood

What would control the TCC then?

Canadian carbed cars never used a computer. I've had arguements with folks over this. They can't beleve there is no comp. cause the Haynes manual says so. Open the hood and have a look or is it too cold to open it up there already? Froze shut till the spring thaw....

There is a vac. modulator mounted on the left engine bay firewall that controlls the TCC.

Most didn't, but some did. Most but not all LG4s had no computer, but all L69s did.

L69's is something I never got much of a chance to look at. I've never seen any great amount of them. Never ever seen one in the junk yard. Lots of LG4's tho.

my '82 LG4 is a good example of a canadian car that had a computer.... one of few, and the source of a lot of discomfort...

84z: damn, I wanted an '84 camaro the most, and now you have 2! geez, thinking of selling one?

the lg4 would have the 416 or 601 heads I imagine, pretty good, do a search, they're quite renowned on here.... I was porting those 993's as practice for my 416's actually...

hey, why did you get another one anyway? just curious.

Got it for parts, its a pretty shabby car but i might strip it and throw the 350 out of my original 84 and have a little fun.

The heads used on the LG-4 cars were the same ones used on the high output L-69 cars. For a 305 they're about the best factory heads offered with perimeter bolt valve covers and non-self aligning rocker arms. Chambers, ports and valves are similar to later 305 TPI centerbolt heads. They have 1.84/1.50 valves and ~58cc combustion chambers.

Do not be confused- they are not "good" heads by today's standards but they are better than late 70s 305 smogger heads that had tiny 1.74/1.50 valves and really bad open chambers.

Well hopefully they are better than my 882 smoggers lol

I cant wait to get the car home and start picking it apart!!

those 58cc heads should do nicely on my 350 after some mild porting. Those heads should bring me up to 10:1 compression from my lowly 8:1 currently.

I have 305 heads on my 350. I wish I had the money to have bigger valves put in. They don't do bad I figured my compression to be 10.47:1
