surge while cruising? where is the fuel filter?
'82 berlinetta, 305 replaced with built 350 with holley 750. Both had mechanical fuel pumps. Car surges as though the brakes where being tapped going through town, on the highway while maintaining speed. Does not surge under acceleration and power seems to be the same. I'm not sure if it is something in the tranny (less than 1000 miles on it #4 in that car
) or a fuel or ignition problem. The car itself has about 170K miles and I've owned it for the last 10 or so. I've never replaced a fuel filter on this car and have never run across one. Where would it be? Any ideas on my problem?

I would get a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and look at it while the condition is occuring.
To answer your question, though, was your car originally a carb? If yes, the fuel filter WAS on the inlet to the carb.
If you don't have a filter, you may have crap that's clogged up the internals of the carb.
