is it time to replace the iginition module?

my car died the other night while driving. up until then ive noticed no problems with starting and driving. i read some posts in the archives, and without a ohm meter or any diagnostic materials i just decided to replace the coil. it started right up, then after a short rev to get the voltage up a little the car died and i couldnt get her started back up.

so now that ive replaced the ignition coil, is the ignition module the next thing to replace? how hard of a swap is this?

thanks

daniel

I know on my 305 tbi it took me a whole of 10 mins to do it. I just took off distributor cap removed the two screws hold in the mod. unpluged the wires connected to it, loaded the bottom with dieletric greess, dont forget that or it will overheat screwed it back in put cap on started right up.

Takes about 15 mins to do. Still having problems huh?? Usually a bad module will produce a check engine light but not in all circumstances. YOu done any of that routine maintenance yet (plugs, wires, O2 sensor, coolant temperature sensor)???

as far as routine maitenence goes, the last time the plugs cap and rotor were replaced was about 14 months ago.

well thats some good news then, 15 minutes, i was reading the manual and it wanted me to remove the distributor and all that jazz, but i all i have to do is remove the cap right? i was kinda afraid to remove the dist. cuz i didnt want to mess the timing up, and being down here at school without any of my tools (i.e timing light and what not) i was just gonna take it in. but now i will give it a shot.

thx guys

The distributor definitely does not need to come out.

well i just finsihed replacing the ignition module and it did the same thing when i replaced the coil. it started briefly then died and i couldnt get it started again. since those two are ruled out, what else could this be?

i need the car pretty soon, i think my roomattes are getting tired of driving me to and fro the parts store.

thanks
