Hyd Roller lifters and bearing Q's
I have an 87' roller 350.
1.) Does it matter what the orientation of the lifter oil holes are in?
The ones on the sides. There is only one side with a hole.
I'm not sure if this motor was apart previously and wanted to be sure because they seem to be all different with no real pattern.
I've kept all lifters rotated and installed exactly on the bores they came from at this point.
There is a 2 bolt cam retainer plate on this motor that looks to be hardened as a bearing surface for the back of the cam gear. I purchased a roller thrust bearing to go there but it doesn't look like there will be room for it with the new gear on there.
2.) Does this actually fit or does this year block/retainer not provisioned to install a roller bearing?
TIA,
Jp

No it doesn't matter which way the oil holes face.
No you can't use the Torrington bearing, unless the cam gear has been machined for it. Same as early-model blocks and timing sets in that regard.
They make timing sets with the provision already included for the thrust bearing. They're about $100-120. You're not going to be able to use that with a normal timing set, as it comes out of the box, without machine work. Anybody that would sell you a naked Torrington bearing as being for a timing set, is not doing you much of a favor.
