When I hardwired my radar detector I tapped into the wires leading to the cigarette lighter and then connected them to the socket that I hid under my dash, so I had a lot of room. But I just got one of those crimps with the 'O' on the end and then tightened it down with the nut supplied..

Im not sure if its the same as what im thinking but, you know the male/female connectors that you crimp onto wires. they come in both flat and round style. i have used the female round one on a lighter before and it plugged right into the stud on the back of the unit.

Just another idea for ya
