Why doesn't GM (or anyone else) sell 400 crate motors?
Everybody sells some form of a 350 crate. But nobody sells a 400. Why? If someone's willing to spend a mid-four figure sum for a complete motor, wouldn't they spend a little more for a 400? Why has no one tapped this market?
400 got a bad wrap and it's an obsolete motor. nothing's used that since like the late 70's or something (whenever they stopped the sb400). Not near the demand of the 350/383/305/big blocks.

400 isnt a hot selling motor. 350 is the standard replacment for all SBC's. You get about the same amount of power from a stock 350 vrs a 400 and better milage. I wish GM and other builders still made 327's.

World Products sells 415 and 427 shortblocks and long blocks. They are smallblock 427's, not BBC.

GM's crate motors are just hopped up versions of their current production motors, using factory blocks that are currently being produced. They aren't going to make all the tooling and have a separate operation to make 400ci blocks for the limited amount they will sell.

Funny thing is a buddy of mine rebuilt his LT1 and it says 327 on the side, not 350(even though it is a 350)
I'm thinking really hard about building a 327, high revving is great fun!
