Cooling system capacity

What is the capacity of the cooling system on my 83 Trans Am with heavy duty cooling? Also, for the colder weather, should i run straight anti-freeze or 50/50 coolant and water? Thanks.

str8 antifreeze won't cool like it should, it is actualy the ater that does most of the cooling power if I remember right from what U read. U don;t need to run anything more than a 50/50 mix. .. auto parts stores sell litle guages U can stil right inside the radiator cap and it will tell U the freezing point of your mixture. when I had my talon I was running a 30/70 coolant to water mixture and it ran great and never froze in CT winter

To answer you other question, the capacity should be 17 quarts for a fully dry system. If you are no removing the block core plugs to drain it completely, plan on at least a half gallon remaining in the case.
