performer or performer RPM

I have a performer intake (non EGR) on my lg4, I have read that the performer RPM actually works better on a 305.

Is this true?

I second the RPM (had a SpreadBore) working better on a 305. Edelbrock recomends it for vehicles of less than 3,600 lbs. I had the Performer RPM on a 5,300 lbs van with a 305, 700r4, and 3.08 gears. Never noticed ANY difference in LOW-SPEED torque vs. the stock Iron manifold with the same Q-Jet. I did notice a good SOTP gain in the power above 3,500 RPM and a nearly 1 MPG highway boost(maybe the timing was off or I had a vacuum leak). Note I had Ported 601 heads and a Federal Mogul CS1014R cam at that time as well as Cast Iron Manifolds and Dual 2 1/4 Exhaust.

Can the Performer RPM, which is a non-egr manifold, but used with 081 heads, which do have egr?

Yes you can use the RPM intake with the stock heads, thats what I had on my 305. Worked great, I would definately use it over the Performer. If your motor is stock and you keep it completely stock you won't see much difference in performance between the Performer and RPM. But if your 305 is modified or you are planning on modifying it the RPM intake will work better for you especially with a cam swap, head porting, headers ect.

jbenge, thanks for the info. I will soon be installing ported heads and bigger cam, so that's why I'm looking for a better intake. I plan to stay with TBI and use and adapter plate. I just wasn't sure how the egr ports on the heads get sealed up if the intake does not have egr. The Performer RPM intake seems to be a solid performer and would give me the option to switch to carb down the road. Searching on this board, looks like this intake would fit under my stock 91 camaro hood (may need to drop down to a 2" element though)

You're going to have to burn the EGR function out of the PROM I believe. Might want to sarch up on that.

Performer is like a stock replacement, therefore, junk.

I just switched from the ZZ4 (same as performer) to a RPM on the truck. It does help the engine breathe alot better @ higher RPM. Of course it isnt a 305 but I dont see any reason you wouldent notice any benefit.
