350 or 355? which one to choose

I'm wondering which engine is better in these ways:
1. reliability
2. build cost
3. power (daily driver, some drag, and maybe auto x)
4. redline
5. streetablility

a 355 is just a 350 that has been bored .030". Most 350s will get bored when the motor is rebuilt. The only reason not to is that you are reusing a highquality piston with little mileage.

ok I thought the 355 was a 305 with a 400 crank? or is that a 335, if so switch it in place of the 355 for the question.

a 400 crank in a 305 is a 335. But, its more of a pain than it's worth. Get a 350 or 355 and you will be leaving them in tire smoke.

Actually, the only time you should overbore a block is when the cylinder linings are worn, scarred or have a ridge at the top of the bore. Most reputable machine shop (especially those that know what they are doing) will advise against a needless overbore, and do a hone job to re-establish the cross hatch. Otherwise, you are just wasting money becuase: 1. the overbore is not needed, 2. you now have effectively one less rebuild the engine can take. Never reuse pistons on a rebuild, that is only when you just plan on replacing the rings. This is not a rebuild.
