Sand in the gas tank!!!!
K, well a while back my first car (87 GTA) went south due to a motor problem so i picked up an 87 trans-am, now the wiring harness was hacked to hell, has a motor from a '72 P/U , no smog or A/C but she ran like a *** damn rocket. its a 355 5/spd. now the thing is my friend & i friend were crusin around about a week after i got it & we were goin uphill & it died. i threw her into neutral started it up again and got about 50ft and she sputtered & died right there on the road. i had her towed to the nearest parking lot which was a pep boys. i had them do the work and they went through 4 pumps thinking they were bad. after the 4th they gave up & handed me the bill (and forgot to put the gas cap back on btw). i got her home drove her for about & hour & the car totally lost power. from just beyond lightly stepping on the pedal i had nothing. After a fuel filter, adjusting the IAC,changing MAF & the TPS from my other car i still had the problem. so i ****ed with the timing & screwed that all up. finally i said **** it & pulled the tank. she had about half an inch of sand/debris in it. needless to say i flushed the tank & put in a new pump/strainer. along with that i said what the hell & threw in the vette injectors i had lying around. when i pulled the rails there was a bit of a residue in the rails collected close to where the rail & injectors mate. im not sure if this is normal or what, now is it possible that debris/sand had gotten past the strainer & filter and into the motor?

it's possible for anything to get past a filter. especially when there's a significant amount. i'm pretty certain that the sand did not make it past the injectors.

well when i pulled the strainer from the fuel pump & ripped it open sand poured out of it. now the filter in the otherhand i didn't open up. so what ur sayin is that the inline filter should of caught it all, right?

Between the strainer in the tank, the filter, and the injectors, whatever got into the motor was probably negligible. I wouldn't worry about it.
