Smoking Problem, plz help

i have an 84 berlinetta with a 350, sometimes when i start it and rev it, it puts out black smoke and it leaves residue on the snow, this doesnt happen all the time or when im driving that ive noticed, i know when i got the car it was sitting for maybe a month or so but im not sure, i was told its burning a little rich but i want to get some more opinions and find out if this is a serious problem...

admitting ur problem is the first step to solving it.

when was ur last tune up? and how does it run when idling, and misses or rough idle?
wut about ur oil, u leaking much?

tune up...no idea ive had it for 3 days...

Idle..Sometimes fine sometimes it sounds rouph like misses i guess..like if it warms up it sounds ok but when u first start it in the cold it goes back and forth from missing to nice sounding

No oil leaks as far as i can tell...oil color is black it looks like..

Sounds like your running too rich, but sounds like you are too rich, do you run any codes? Make sure ur MAF isnt bad if its FI if not I duno becuase i dunno too much bout carbs

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that this is a carbes car, with the stock computer-controlled Q-Jet...

If it only does this when the engine is completely cold, then the choke is out of adjustment, or it needs a new choke pull-off diaphragm. Is the whole computer system still hooked up and operating properly? If it's not, but you still have that carb, it will run rich all the time except maybe at WOT.
