Intake Matching a 1205 gasket?

Anyone know a good off the shelf intake, that matches the 1205 gasket, i have Edelbrock RPM heads and they are a little bigger than the 1205 gasket(someone did a little port work) and i matched up the intake to the 1205 gasket(both the HSR i matched up, and the RPM Air Gap) they both were about 1/8 of an inch all the way around inside of the gasket. i dont want this. i want an intake that is gasket matched but it is a 400sbc and i dont plan on reving over 6200.(info in sig)

No off the shelf intake is going to match, you're going to have to grind. If you don't, you'll be giving up HP. If the intake opeing is smaller than the port on the head then it wont be as bad as if the intake was bigger than on the head.

Port match the intake to the heads first. Then glue the gaskets in place and use a razor and shave away material blocking the port until they match.

Yep, what Dialed In said.

If the port work on your heads was extended down the port, then there might be a few horses in opening up the intake to match. If not,, then you won't see a lot of power difference grinding on one of the Edelbrock intake manifolds with the 1205 CNC machined ports.

Part of the point I was trying to make is that gasket matching won't do anything if the heads/intake aren't port matched. If you buy an intake matched to a 1205 or similar then you will end up with an intake with bigger ports than the head. That's worse than having a smaller manfold port b/c the air will be hitting a wall b/c the port ont he head is smaller. If you don't have the means to do it, find a reputable performance engine builder to do it for you. I can do it for you if you want to send the heads/intake to MD

well the heads are already matching the 1205's but the intake is way smaller. i understood what you meant. i think the cost wouldnt be worth the gain or would it? im not going for too much high end HP but i would think that gasket matching would gain tq too but probably not as much high end hp.

the heads were matched to the 1205's, were they ported too? If not you lost some flow there if just the opening of the intake port was opened up to the gasket, unless the whole runer was properly ported. You want to first match the intake opening to the port on the head, then match the gasket to the head. That way they all match when you put them together.
