about how much would it run me to get a 3.5" peice of exhaust pipe mandrel bent 90*? im not using it for exhaust purposes.

also, would it be cheaper to bring it to a shop that doesn't really do exhaust pipe so it might be cheaper?

There is only one shop around me that does mandrel bending--Denny's Performance Exhaust or something really close to that. Anyway, I called them and they said $250 to turn the machine on and set it up and $50 per bend. That was too much for me so I ordered a few of the Hooker mandrel U-bends from Summit. I'll just cut them to get the bends I need and weld up the sections. The Hooker bends are $18/U-bend, $19/J-bend for mild steel and around $50/U-bend, J-bend for stainless. Either way, it's 18-guage.

 

You're going to have to find a shop with an in-house mandrel bender first... They're big and expensive, and most shops don't have one.

You're best bet is to find a company where you can buy mandrel bent metal from. The pipe shouldn't be expensive at all... tell them the dimentions and anything you need from them and they'll bend it, or ship to you a pre-bent piece.

i think there is a local muffler shop that gets ALOT of business, and i think they might have a mandrel pipe bender, if not they're is quite a few metal shops around here, hopefuly i can find one that will bend me one.

I wouldn't count on it breathmint. I don't think I've ever even seen a shop with it's own mandrel bender.

Most shops have a crush bender, and buy pre made mandrel bends for when they need them. I've bought a bunch of 90 degree bends, premade, from my local shop. Usually only $20 or so each for most sizes...I'd ask about that.

 

i guess that'l work pretty good for a CAI system. should only need three different pieces, are the ends sized differently (whatever that is called) so they just slide into each other?

This is just for a CAI? Use PVC dude. Cheap, you can get any bends/size you want, and technically it keeps the air just a little bit cooler

 

...yeah i second that comment... I bought a CAI for my dodge avenger a little while back, and the thing is polished stainless steel and heats up quite a bit - in theory defeating the entire purpose of having a COLD air intake

i was always told, that PVC would eventualy also heat up, and deform and start to melt. plus i want to eventualy get this coated or something. AND i can't find any 3.5" PVC, it doesn't exsist anywhere i have been, but i have seen 3.5" steel pipe.

Hell, I paid a hole 10 bucks for a 75 degree mandrel bend, and a 90. Also had a 3" header flair welded on both.
Believe it or not, he didn't even what the money. I went on a very slow day for these guys who were employees at a midus.
I guess I made out like a bandit. Smart thing I got his business card.
