help me stop smoking!!

1986 305 176,000 miles (no rebuild)
on cold mornings when I start the car the engine misses and smokes (blue) until it gets warmed up. Only on cold mornings, in the summer it does not do this. Also, it does NOT use oil between changes (3,000 miles) I ran a diagnostic on the ECM and the code tells me I have a bad EGR valve (which i am going to replace soon) Could it be more than the EGR valve. And if it is the valve seals, why does it only do it when it is cold. Thanks for all suggestions!!

Try some Nicorete, or the patch. Cold turkey doesn't usually work to well.

I'll tell you one thing: its not the egr valve. The egr does nothing when you start the car or idle. When did it start doing this? Its burning oil, probably worn valve guides or seals from oil leaking through while the car sits. I would bet it does it when its warm also, just you didn't notice it, or it only started this winter.

Hey now, I quit cold turkey just over two years ago (after somking a pack a day for seven years). It worked well enough for me.

I'll second the valve seal opinion. Mine used to do the same thing until I put a new set of heads on it. Doesn't do it any more.

Cold morning, the seals shrink. Also, it has all night for the oil to make it's way past the seal and down the guide. If it isn't using any oil, I wouldn't do anything.
