The car gods were nice to me for a change.
Well last night outside smoking a cig, and i notice this wet spot under my car. So i look under there to see where it dripping from, of course antifreeze dripping from around the water pump. So after finding a flash light and looking around I noticed that the lower radiator hose going to the water pump was flat and dripping. So it looks like the hose it leaking. Should of been changed a while ago they looked original. So for once its only a hose and not the pump.
So just wondering after I change the hose going to do upperone while at it, how much coolent/water does the raditor/engine hold?(88 305tbi) also do i fill system with car off or on? any help would be appricated.
Thanks Dan

I don't know off hand how much it holds, i beleive it will take two jugs of antifreeze and two of water, but don't hold be to that. Fill it with the car off, and leave the cap off. Start the car, and let it warm up, so that the thermostat opens and the water level in the radiator drops. Then top it off and put the cap back on.

Yep, sounds like 2 jugs of each. Good call on the extra one, never a bad idea to have extra antifreeze!

You won't need two jugs of antifreeze unless the whole cooling system is bone dry. I'd be willing to bet you only loose between 1.5-2 gallons of fluid. Once the hoses are replaced, I would dump one jug of antifreeze in the radiator and then fill the rest w/ water. Let the car run and get up to temp. Once the thermostat opens, the level in the radiator will drop. Then you can add more. Then put the cap on and make sure the overflow jug is full. As you drive it, the air pockets will purge out and suck coolant from the overflow jug.
P.S. "full" is to the "hot" mark on the jug.
