327 heads on a 305??

I bought a motor with a set of 327 heads on it, so i took them off and got them ported and polished. I was going to use them on the origianl block but with these damn smog laws i cannot put the block into my car. My question is, will the 327 heads that have been ported and polished be good on a 305 TBI block??? Thank you for any feedback, it will be greatly apreciated..

Well, I know the 327 had the same bore as a 350 (4.00"), and that the 305 has a smaller bore (3.??). You will probably lose compression unless the 327 heads had a VERY small chamber volume. I am by far an expert at engine building, but I would not put those heads on your 305. If the 327 heads came of a 327, find some way to put that engine in your car and still keep your emissions equip. You will probably have to get a bigger TBI unit to feed the High reving 327 if you hav to stick with TBI. After that, just burn a chip (see the DIY-EFI board) so you can stay emissions friendly.

Wait for a second opinion before you make a decision, though.

Put the 327 Headed block into te car, There is no Way anyone can tell its not the orignal block.

Anyways, Swapping the 327 heads onto the 305 is against smog laws in the first palce.

Ok the 327 Heads are currently on my 355 project, scheduled to go in mid next year. It came out of a 69 stingray, i was told that this block could not smog because it does not have a knock sensor, so there for my sevice light is going to be on, is there any way that i could bypass that so that the SES light is not on??

If you're going to use the TBI then you need that knock sensor.

So what heads are they actually? There are quite a few vastly different castings that were used on 327s over the years.

The knock sensor screws into the right-hand coolant drain plug hole, which all SBCs since they came out in 1955 have. That is not an issue.

SBC heads started getting accessory holes on the ends in 1968. The exact location has changed over the years, but you should be able to get most things to mount with some minor work.

Put the whole 327 longblock into your car. Attach the stuff the original engine had on it, you'll be good to go (assuming the cam isn't too wild).
