You really shouldn't need too much stuff. I switched my 355 to solid lifters and even though there is usually a slight performance loss the simplicity is quite a bit better and since I am switching to carb they'll run better with the carb...

All you need to change is the cam and the lifters themselves. There will also be a tin tray above the lifters (I think they call it the spider tray or something) You can pull that out, it isn't needed with the solid lifters. I don't know if you'll have to change push rods or not, I don't believe so though.

You will need new pushrods. The roller lifters a quite a bit taller than any flat tappet lifter, and they have shorter pushrods. You'll need a set of "standard" length pushrods, available anywhere.

The flat tappet lifters will drop right into the roller lifter bores. They will look kinda funny sitting "way down in there" but they will work just fine and the oil slots on the lifters and the block will line up just fine. Many factory engines use flatt tappet lifters in a roller block.

I beleive you can also resue the roller cam timing chain on a flat tappet cam, but not the other way around.

HP increase? Depends on the cam specs more than anything.

Remember to disable your knock sensor after the switch. Solid lifter clatter will drive the knock sensor bonkers, the ECM will whack out a ton of timing and the engine will generally run lousy if you don't.

I don't think you are gonna like setting the lash on those solid lifters all the time, though.

Damon,

How did you disable the knock sensor without tripping the SES light?
