Head opinion
I currently have bone stock 882 heads and have a guy offering me some 186 heads for $225. The 186 heads are gasket matched, have 1.94/1.5 valves, 1.43" .600 lift double springs w/dampers, ARP studs & guideplates, bronze guides, 165cc runners, 62.5cc chambers. Does this sound like a good upgrade for the $$?

NO NO!!
It's a horrible setup! Especially for that outrageous price of $225.
You need to give me his name, phone number, and email address so I can punish him severely!!!!

I thought DD2000 was on crack when it listed me as actually losing some power by switching to the 186's Thanks

I'm not sure they have hardened seats, that depends on what year they are.
They are probably worth twice that on ebay.
EDIT: It also depends on if you are pulling off a set of AFR's to put them on....
Depends...Do you have the money for any aftermarket heads?
If not I would grap them. If he had bronze guides put in. He probably had hardened seat done at the same time. Find out

DD2 is on crack. Stock camel backs will mop the floor with those 882. You can do a little bowl work before you put them on. Or leave them stock, and still make more power than you have now.

DD lies when it comes to 882 heads. Don't believe a word it says about them because it doesn't agree with the real world. I suspect 882 Heads Inc. must have paid them to pad their numbers, or something.
You will find that those double-humps, if they're ready to run and don't require more money spent on them, are probably the best $225 you can possibly spend on that motor.
No matter what Desktop Dyno says, I've changed countless smogger heads off of motors for double-humps such as 186s; and EVERY TIME, without exception, got a HUGE positive result.
"Gasket matched" is worthless, possibly even harmful, if the "real" porting hasn't been done.
1.94"/1.5" valves were the stock sizes in sedan type uses for those heads.

186 heads wre from 300hp 350's in 1969 1970 and hi perf 302Z28's in 69.
The 1.94 version are the 300hp 350 heads. a good hi perf head. Much better than 882's.
A really nice head if you were to port them.
A good swap.
