I'm lookin at an 88 Trans Am at a little car dealership. The dealer says it has 90000 original miles on it. They want 3000$ for it.
With either the 305 or the 350 I think this isn't a bad price, it looks brand new and still has the t-top bag in it! Its an automatic. The car is not a GTA. My real question is from the factory did they put 350's in non GTA's? And if its a 305 is it TBI or TPI? I know you are not psycics so you can't magically tell the engine but what are your best guesses?

TBI has a normal round air filter. TPI will not have this. Being an auto doesnt mean its a 350, but I dont believe the 350's camw with t-5 so it may be a 350. I think ive heard that if the 8th digit of the vin is an 8 then its a 350. get the vin and use the decoder on this site to find out for sure.

 

yeah. the 8th digit of the vin code on the dash will be an 8 for a 350 tpi, an F for a 305 tpi. tbi engines will have a big round air filteron top of the motor and tpi engines will runners on the top of the engine(they look like an aircraft motor). other than gta's having a 350 tpi, the formula firebirds can also have a 350 tpi. not a bad price for a thirdgen with 90,000 miles. i would have a very good look at it before you buy. look for damage under the car to see if its been wrecked. just giving advice.

to my knowlege the 350 is only available in the gta. that was the point of them.
