Do I have a long or short water pump?

1987 Camaro IROCZ L98.

I measure about 7" from block to the circular mounting plate for the pulley. If I am measuring correctly, then according to March, I have a "long water pump". Can someone confirm?

I am looking to buy March Performance pulley set as a dress-up item.

Almost all SBC's have long water pumps. Only the Corvette and i believe some if not all trucks had short. No thirdgen ever came with a short water pump.

Short water pumps were phased out around 1970. Some car builders will still use an aftermarket short pump because of clearance issues but it only adds other problems. The short pump doesn't have mounting holes for the alternator or power steering pump so that requires even more modifications.

Now your next question is, is your water pump standard or reverse rotation?

The current water pump is an Edelbrock aluminum hi-flow unit, direct replacement as the factory unit. So, I assume (you know what people say about "assume") it is same rotation, the belt goes around same as factory.

FWIW: These are the March pieces that I think that I will order:
6170 set,,, crank 6171,,, water pump 6152,,, alternator 137,,, power steering 531.

How does this look?

One question I have for March is that my alternator drive belt is a 5 or 6 rib belt (very similar to a serpentine belt),,, their alternator pulley does not look like its machined for a 5 rib belt, it looks like a v-belt.

BTW: I have remove the air pump and the AC, therefore, I have only two belts.

long pumps were installed from factory 69-up in cars and 73-up in trucks

except for corvettes which i think kept the short pump a few more years into the 70s
and the ram horns exhausts too

Short pump, 75-79 V8 Monza, Sunbird,Starfire ...Corvettes had short pump into the mid 80's, even with reverse rotation for serpentine belt.
